This new paperback tome by freelance author Tanya Birch is a welcome addition to any Virginia craft beer lover’s library and certainly helps the intrepid beer traveler along their beery trail with much useful information that is also complemented by tasting recommendations and vivid photographs.
The 229 pages are chock full of crucial information on breweries, brewpubs, beer bars and such that make it a handy and essential travelling guide for the novice beer traveler to the most well traveled Virginia brewery “expeditioneer.”
Over the last year or so the author, Tanya Birch, visited the majority of the beer-centric establishments that were open in the Commonwealth. She gathered details and organized them in a fashion that allows the book to be a valuable and primary beer drinker’s resource.
Beer Lover’s Virginia: Best Breweries, Brewpubs & Beer Bars (Beer Lovers Series) features over 100 breweries, brewpubs and beer bars and is geared towards the craft beer enthusiast.
Ms Birch has the breweries organized by region and provides the business address, website, contact information and hours of operation. She also furnishes additional information such as the names of the founders and / or brewers as well as the opening dates and a brief story on each establishment. She describes many of the beers that are offered up at each location and compliments her writings with photographs and often a “Beer Lovers Pick” – tasting notes section which has specific beers that she recommends for sampling. Each listing offers an insight into that particular brewery. She has done a great deal of the research for the thirsty traveler.
Beer Lover’s Virginia: Best Breweries, Brewpubs & Beer Bars (Beer Lovers Series) (coupled with the most up to date brewery listings in the back of this magazine) makes it very easy to navigate visits to the 125 or so breweries that now operate in our fair state. It was clearly a labor of love for the author and we all are the beneficiaries of her well organized book and thoughtful recommendations.
