(Bunnyman Brewing’s Super Saison Farmhouse Ale is a fine choice for Thanksgiving)
By Jeff Maisey
Friends and family are coming over for a Thanksgiving feast and they don’t want wine paired with the traditional turkey, Virginia ham, sweet potatoes, stuffing, collards, and jellied cranberry sauce. Nope, they want beer. Here’s what we suggest.
The lighter the meat, the lighter the wine is one general rule. Same goes for beer in many respects.
Think style more than brand this Thanksgiving.
Serving a nice bodied, flavorful saison is our top recommendation, and many Virginia breweries offer them. A crisp pale ale, amber ale, lager, or Belgian dubbel are also sure to please.
For dessert, when pumpkin, sweet potato, and walnut pies are likely requested, comes an opportunity to reflect the richness in serving a porter, nut brown ale, Scotch ale, and — you guessed it — pumpkin ale.
